Nobody knows when and where a natural disaster will occur.
To the south-east of Lake Toya Hot Springs lies Mt. Usu, an active volcano that has erupted four times in the last 100 years. However, eruptions are often preceded by earthquakes, usually some days in advance.t has allowed us to evacuate before main eruption occure. There are no official casualties from the last 100 year eruptions. Otherwise, the mountain is very calm. Volcanic activity has given birth to the beautiful scenery of Toya and its hot springs are created by the mountain’s natural gifts.
